CaCa (aka Christine) left today. On a jet plane. For this place called DC. “Shit.” Enough said.
(I’ll tell you about my week after I get a good nights sleep! Such change is emotionally exhausting!)

Note to reader: My use of language is increasing so rapidly, from here on out I will put quotations around words and phrases I say.
So far this week I have explored the wild streams of Frog Park
, fallen in love with a “pink car” (the first color I named without prompting), spotted butterflies on blades of grass from afar
(I definitely don’t need glasses! - the butterfly is in the lower half of this picture), hugged and kissed dogs and cats alike (mostly Oliver), saw and bravely pet (while Christine held me) the biggest dog ever (a Great Dane), watched trains and spotted planes as I traversed the gardens at Dreamland park, and visited Dr. Tenney at Kaiser for my 18 month check up where I was given a cool new book and four vaccines!! And the week isn’t even over!
After the doctors appointment, I woke up and built my very own fort/obstacle course (just the way Baba and Christine used to do it) - by putting “this pillow” and “this pillow” on the floor, which I then played on like a “see-saw.” Some of them were “heavy pillows,” so I asked Christine for “help please.”
. Teething has it’s down falls. Mostly, I drool a lot. But, because I love to clean and be clean, when I drooled on the couch, I immediately got a “towel” to “clean” up the “mess.”
. I am very thorough, as you can tell (given that it was only a speck of drool). I also will help “put away” laundry - so long as you don’t insist that it’s folded and in any sort of order. But, I think I’m on the right track ;-)
After the fort, Christine and I went outside.
As enamored as I am by parks and other children, probably one of my favorite things to do is be in and explore nature - whether that be the grassy fields at the park on 47th street, the stream at frog park or the trees and gardens at Dreamland. It takes very little (usually nothing) to get me into the wilderness: burying my hands in dirt, smelling flowers, climbing rocks, banging sticks together, but most of the time I need to be reminded how fun slides and swings are! What can I say? I just really like chasing squirrels, the sound of birds, the smell of the earth and the feel of flowing water!
Now, all I need is my “guitar” in the wild with me, and I’ll be your usual (but definitely special!), sensitive, “tree”-hugger “dude.”
Although nothing compares to coming “home” when I’m hungry and tired for lunch and a nap :-P
Until Next Time, Peace Out Cub Scouts.
My day may have just begun, but it’s already off to a great start! After Christine and I took a walk to CVS to pick up some basic necessities we stopped by the 41st tot park, which has this VERY cool mosaic mural across the street at the elementary school. So, after playing in the tot park for a few minutes and reviewing the colors “yellow,” “green,” and “blue” with Christine, I ran over to the school, said hi to a few teachers and older kids, and then pointed out EVERY butterfly on the wall - with as much enthusiasm as my little body could muster! Not only did I point out the butterflies, but I practiced my colors and to my surprise I GOT THEM RIGHT!!! I pointed out the yellow pieces of glass, and the purple and the green pieces! It was SO cool!
On the way home in the stroller (which I went into peacefully because Christine said it would get us home SUPER FAST - which I have added to my repertoire of phrases - so I could see my monkey E and Elmo) I saw ZERO dogs. It was madness! In hopes of calling them out of their hiding places, I repeated the word “Dog” relentlessly all the way home! Even though Christine tried to point out cars and planes, I was flabbergasted that there were NO DOGS! Not even one! My disappointment was short lived because when we arrived home (and it was SUPER fast) I got to eat my entire lunch with a spoon…and my fingers (yay beans) and then hug and laugh with Elmo (see picture below) and learn the word “camera” until it was time for me to “sleep.” I’m basically a learning machine, picking up language like it was candy on the floor!
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the day holds! And week! Yippee!
Until Next Time, Peace out Cub Scout.
Almost…Christine has been around…but Mommy and Blobby have been missing…hopefully not for tooooo much longer - I mean Christine is a lot of fun and all, but I miss my Baba and Mama sooooooooooooooo much!
Yesterday, Christine and I went to the zoo!! Here, I learned to say “elephant”and got to see camels (which I found fascinating), and BIRDS, and funny looking baboons eating bugs out of each other’s hair (given the cleaning I figured that had to be the mother and so I kept pointing and saying “Mama E” - E being the name I use for my monkey). I walked EVERYWHERE. Christine brought the carriage, which she used periodically, because most of the day I refused to ride in it, but she told me she’d only carry me at exhibits, so I walked on my feet almost the entire time!! Boy was I tired by the end, but it was soooo much fun! In fact, on our way out (as I was relaxing in the carriage) she detoured to the petting zoo, and I got to pet goats!!! (see video below). I was afraid at first, leaving then coming back in and then leaving again. But after a few times of going in and out, I went in and touched the goat!!! All by myself!!! When it didn’t turn around and bite me, I got in there and grabbed a brush and even started grooming it!
By the end I had even moved on from the small goats (above) to the BIG goats! (see pic below) AND with TWO brushes!! It was SO cool and SO much fun!

After an exhausting day, I woke up after a long rest, and got to see Annie, the dog, that Christine feeds every now and then, go to the farmers market and get BLUEBERRIES, followed by a play date with my bff Kaiya. Now, post nap, since Maya found me this wicked cool kitchen at a yard sale, I get to go to Ikea and pick out some accessories with Christine (talk about mayhem!). You see, last week, I also started cooking - or at least helping out. Christine and I made Banana Bread together! I got to pour in some ingredients, smash the banana’s and even mix them all together!!
And boy was the end result tasty! I mean banana’s and bread and sweetness, what’s not to like?! So once I pick up the necessary tools at Ikea, I can make myself banana bread any time I like!!! Woohoo :-D Of course, I will branch out and learn to bake other things too - so long as vegetables aren’t involved (I recently, as in the weekend I’m home alone, have begun to boycott them).
Oh - and then after Ikea, if there’s time, Christine is going to take me to the UCB Science Museum - What a day!! I’ll be tired by the end of this one too, I’m sure…I’ll show you pictures of my kitchen when it’s complete - until then -
Peace out cub scouts!
1 of 2 - learning phrases in stages. “dude”
These were the weeks I learned to speak. I started putting words together to create phrases, like “Hey Dude” (see video above), or “Look, Kaiya, Dog!” or “Big Truck” (which is more of an exasperated sound followed by the word truck). Of course, most of my thoughts are still represented by one or two words. Saying, “Mamma” could mean ‘I want mamma’, or ‘mamma and I went to the park today and had SO much fun!’ - I’m a pretty context specific sort of guy :-)
Other times when context comes in handy: When I start talking up a storm, only to have most of the adults in the room nod and smile - like they don’t have a clue what’s going on…in these moments I could be handed all sorts of things from food, to a sweatshirt, to taking a layer of clothes off, to getting changed - I guess their guess is where it counts…I don’t really worry about these sort of mixed messages much, I just use it as motivation to become clearer.
That’s why the next week, I learned to say “Butterfly, (which sounds a lot like “fufferfly” or so I’ve been told) Where are you?” and “outside” (often accompanied by me handing shoes to adults) and “Where’d it go?” and “I don’t know.” BTW, I LOVE chasing butterflies! Some of these have been one trick wonders so far, but given enough positive reinforcement they’re sure to become staples of my linguistic charm :-P Oh, and for those of you who don’t know, since my publisher has been slow with the posts, I’ve moved on from saying simply animal sounds (although this is still a favorite past time) to naming them, like “Dog” and “Cow” and “Bird.” Other words I’m obsessed with? Mostly, “car,” although I’ve begun adding “plane,” and “keys” to this list.
Time for more mayhem - I mean to “wake up.”
Until next time, Peace out Cub Scouts!
Practicing new skills first thing in the morning and so good at it! :-)
